Camila and Roman

A Russian-Czech couple. Their wedding took place at the Grand Mark Hotel. It was an intimate celebration in candlelight surrounded by close friends and a family’s faithful companion. Try to guess who we are talking about. And you are probably right, it’s a dog. He has not only attended the celebration himself but also his proud 3-D modeled figure was decorating a wedding cake.

Seems like out-of-the-box ideas never fail.

On my recommendation, the bride has chosen a pastry chef that I’ve been working with for many years. A couple approved a simple, minimalist design for the cake but requested a figurine of their dog to be a main decoration detail. All agreed on the reference, and order details, and it seemed like the cake planning part was closed at the moment. A few weeks before the wedding, the pastry chef sent dog figurines that were available for sale, but none of them looked like their beloved pet.

A panic scent was spread around since the pastry chef didn’t make the figurines herself and there was nothing suitable for sale. It was important for the couple to have a figurine that looked like their dog, which was the whole point of having it there. In addition, there was some tension on timely matters and questions like “why the issue of selecting figurines wasn’t raised earlier?”, that would have allowed more time to find an alternative

The tension between the couple and a pastry chef was escalating, and I felt responsible for not paying more attention to their communication. Nonetheless, I needed to find a solution and not get myself to succumb to overall panic and rising emotions.

The idea of 3D printing came to my mind then. I found an offer online and it turned out that printing our little dog figurine was not a problem at all. Also, the price was affordable, no more than 300 Czech crowns. We printed the figurine, and the pastry chef painted it. The result exceeded all expectations!

This story represents my life philosophy. I believe that there are no hopeless situations but those that require creative thought. The cake was incredibly delicious, decorated with a figurine that looked like an exact copy of their beloved dog.
